Deer on Lake Gogebic

LAKE GOGEBIC - A heads up if you are riding Lake Gogebic close to the shoreline.

This group of deer- more than a half dozen- are regularly walking on the West Shore by the Ontonagon County Park at dusk.

If you use the West Shore to navigate the lake, please use caution in this area.

The deer are timid and tend to scamper toward the county park if they see humans, but they are curious and will sometimes stand still for a bit before moving on.

This isn’t unusual. Deer seem to congregate along the shoreline this time of year. Be very careful if you are entering or exiting your shoreline. A small doe was once bedded in the snow under a pier. It was safe, but was tough to see during a night time snowmobile ride.
