30 inches and counting.
36 hours without power.
It was a Thanksgiving to remember on Lake Gogebic, with blizzard cleanup now underway.
West Shore and East Shore properties reported significant limb damage, with some larger trees also downed on properties and on driveways.
With overnight temperatures reaching the single digits this week, it’s a good idea to get driveways cleared, particularly at the entrance where plows are leaving deep piles as they pass by.
There was significant water content to the snow, as the storm first began as rain. If you haven’t cleared your driveway, now is the time to do so. While there is plenty of light and fluffy snow in places, compacted snow drifts are fast turning to concrete.
As for the lake, it has frozen in Bergland Bay and the northwest shore, but open water still exists along the East Shore. Do not attempt to go out on the lake at this point.
Snowmobile trails open December 1st, but they are not ready for riding. There are still open areas of water and downed limbs along the trails.
Many of the lakefront restaurants are re-opening for the Winter season, so be sure to stop by and enjoy a great meal and beverage. Just do so by car or truck, and don’t plan to ride the lake on your sled.
